Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the BVRT to ride?

The BVRT is a well maintained gravel rail trail.  The 50km event is mostly easier with gentle gradient slopes and few gullies.  The 100km and 150km distances involve extended mostly gentle gradients and numerous gullies which require a higher level of riding experience and ability.  The BVRT does occasionally cross public roads so please keep your eyes and ears open at all times and stay safe.

Do I need to supply my own bike?

Yes, entrants need to bring their own bicycles in good condition.  The BVRT is a gravel trail so either gravel or mountain bikes are recommended.  You may wish to hire a bicycle for the day through our event partner Forbes MTB. Find out more here Bike Hire.

Do I need to bring my own food, drinks and bicycle spares?

Yes, it is recommended all riders are self sufficient.  Valley Velo will have food and drink stations at the turnaround points with some bicycle mechanics on course but this is an outdoor event on gravel rail trails so riders should be self sufficient and exercise maximum care for each other and themselves.

What is happening in the Finishers Village?

The Esk Show is on the same day as Valley Velo so the township of Esk will be alive! Our Valley Velo Finishers Village will be located at the finish line and features food, drinks, music and displays from sponsors and our charity partners. It’s an opportunity to kick-back, relax and celebrate your conquering of the BVRT Valley Velo.

Do my donations go directly to the charities?

Entrants to Valley Velo are asked to commit to fund raising as much as you can. Your registration is through a platform owned by MND and Me Foundation who will collect all donations directly. They will then distribute the split of donations to Compass Inc. There is an option for you to pay the merchant fee and then 100% of your donation goes directly to the charity partners. The entrant fee has been set at a level to cover event costs with any surpluses to be distributed to the charity partners.  Should any deficit arise then it will be covered by the Event Partners.
